There are a lot of gray websites around and their appearance vary from being grunge and informal to clean, classy and businesslike. The Use of Color

Color is one of the most decisive elements in web design. It can either stimulate the readers to explore the website or turn them off and leave. Because color has a great effect on the mood of the readers, it is important that you know the effect of each color that you use on your website, at least in general terms.

Based on commonly held idea, Red for example, represents heat, passion, rage, love and excitement. This color commands attention and it triggers strong emotion. Basically, vivid colors such as Red, Orange and Purple, have a potential to arouse forceful emotional responses as opposed to a passive or a neutral color.

Neutral Color

A neutral color is one that you will not usually find in the color wheel. To put it straight, neutral colors do not contain any color at all. Colors such as Black, Gray and White are what those which are referred to as neutral colors.  Of the three neutral colors, Gray is the most non-committal of all. It is a balance between Black and White and so it has an attribute of both colors.

While a dark Gray is not as dark as Black, its effect to the eye is as good as black when used on a design. In the same way, light Gray can take the place of White while not as bare as the latter.  Also it has a number of undertones such as Blue, Green and Purple.

Gray has found its frequent application in websites as background. Due to its neutrality, it makes other colors stand out.  And Gray does so, while suppressing the glare of pure white, or the arresting effect of solid black.
